Apples implementation of OTA Downloads of Podcasts is sub-par

I really wanted to give Apples implementation of OTA downloading of Podcasts a chance. Since the release of 2.2 firmware, I tried using the built in podcast player on the iPhone. After attempting to download podcasts, several thoughts come to mind on this quirky and rushed implementation. Where is the syncing? and Why the limit of cellular network downloads to 10 MB? Downloading 1 podcast at a time while jumping between the iTunes mobile store app and the iTunes mobile app was not what I had in my. After attempting to download 2 twit podcasts and 1 buzz out loud podcast, the twit podcast failed to download (I got an error message), the buzz out loud podcast would not download because it was over 10MB. I don't even subscribe to a podcast smaller then 10 MB and I don't have wifi at work (where I need to download most) so this update is completely useless to me. Does anyone else feel the same or is anyone actually content with how Apple has implemented OTA downloads.

I still use Podcaster. Apple OTA podcast downloading is completely useless!

I agree Al. While I am happy that I can get podcast directly on the phone, I think Apple did an extremely poor job with the UI. What's with the jump from the Ipod app to Safari then to Itunes to update a podcast? Very un-apple. I can't stand that there is no form of subscription method which is the whole point of a podcast anyway. The 10 meg limit does not bother me that much because you can still stream the Cast's. It works pretty well. Podcaster has all the features that I want for podcast on the phone. It is a damn shame that they rejected it for this "janky" system. Keep up the good work Al. I have not brought myself to jail break my phone yet, but I am getting closer each day just to get your app.

My thoughts (http://matro.tumblr.com/post/61085104/phonepod-disappointment) are almost exactly in line with your. Not only am I far from content, but I think Apple is dropping the ball pretty badly here.

The only thing PTA is good for is may be for d/l a random podcast when running out of things to listen to. Absolutely useless for podcastt subscriptions. Get more episodes link is not even working right. I'm eagerly waiting for iPod touch 2g to be jailbreakable so I can start using podcaster. Or dumit apple just approve the podcaster app

Don't you think you could try again to submit it ? Because the main problem we have with the way Apple implemented it is that we can't subscribe easily to a feed :(

everything downloadable from Apple is limited to 10mb, including apps. Very frustrating, and pointless. I think you're right on target with your critique of their useless and, apparently, arbitrary iPhone limitations.
